Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Manhattan's Michelle Pacheco (22 points) had four key points in an 11-2 run to end the first half and led four scorers in double-figures as it defeated the Stony Brook University women's basketball team, 70-60, on Monday evening at Pritchard Gymnasium. Sophomore Ariel Brown (Lumberton, N.J) led Stony Brook (1-9) with a career-high 17 points. Freshman Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.) added 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench. The Jaspers win their second straight game and are 4-6.

"We got some real good open looks tonight," head coach Michele Cherry said. "Ariel Brown had a great game for us on both ends of the floor and Destiny Jacobs continues to be one of our go-to players off the bench."

Stony Brook opened up its biggest lead of the game and a 12-7 lead following a jumper from Kairsten Nunn (Bowie, Md.). Following a media timeout, Manhattan hit back-to-back three pointers to take a 13-12 lead. After sophomore Misha Horsey's (Wyncote, Pa.) jumper tied the score at 18, the lead changed for the eighth time in the first half when Nicole Harrison hit two free throws. The two free throws gave the Jaspers a two-point advantage and a lead they kept the rest of the game.

Brown's jumper cut the Manhattan lead to one, 22-21 with 3:14 left but Stony Brook went cold, shooting 1-of-6 the rest of the half and Manhattan's 11-2 run opened up a 10-point lead for the visitors going into the break.

After Manhattan stretched the lead to 12, Stony Brook answered with an 8-0 run. The Jaspers responded immediately, outscoring the Seawolves 16-6 over six minutes. In a game of runs and spurts, Stony Brook cut Manhattan's lead to just four with a 12-2 run, making the score 55-51 with 4:11 left. The Jaspers scored the next six points as they opened up a 10-point lead, 61-51 with 3:01 remaining. Stony Brook got as close as seven points with 1:18 remaining.

Brown recorded a career-high for the second straight game and earned America East Player of the Game honors. Jacobs shot 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Lindsey Loutsenhizer had 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench for Manhattan. Kelly Regan and Nicole Harrison had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Stony Brook is off for 12 days for final exams before flying out to California and the Courtyard By Marriott LA Westside Holiday Classic hosted by Loyola Marymount University. First up for the Seawolves is Delaware on December 28. Tip-off against the Blue Hens is slated for 8 pm Eastern time.
