Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Two three-pointers from Ashlee Feldman early in the second half helped Northeastern take a six-point lead as it scored the first 10 points of the second half on its way to a 62-51 win over the Stony Brook women's basketball team, on Saturday afternoon at Pritchard Gymnasium. The Huskies (2-4) have won their second game in a row while Stony Brook is 0-7.

"This game came down to the second half, they made shots and we didn't," head coach Michele Cherry said. "We've had trouble making shots and today was no different."

Northeastern jumped out to a 6-0 lead before freshman Destiny Jacobs (Glen Burnie, Md.) made a free throw to get Stony Brook on the board. Junior Joia Daniels (Silver Spring, Md.) basket with 12:38 left in the first half was the Seawolves first field goal of the afternoon. After Jasmine Crew made both ends of a one-and-one, Stony Brook founds its groove, going on a 17-0 run over almost five minutes.

Following sophomore Kirsten Jeter's (Elmont, N.Y.) free throws that made the score 10-6, sophomore Misha Horsey (Wyncote, Pa.) single-handedly propelled Stony Brook's run. She had nine points during the spurt in which the Seawolves scored on seven on their next eight possessions. Its 11-point lead, 21-10, was the largest Stony Brook has led by this season. Feldman's three ended Northeastern's drought, which spanned almost six minutes.

Horsey had 12 of her team-high 15 points in the first half as Stony Brook led at halftime, 30-28. It was the Seawolves first lead going into the break this season.

Jasmine Crew's jumper from the free throw line tied the score at 30, Feldman hit back-to-back threes and Kendra Walton's layup gave Northeastern an eight-point lead and its biggest since 8-1. Sophomore Ariel Brown's (Lumberton, N.J.) jumper got the Northeastern lead to three but the Huskies answered back, going on a 13-0 run over five minutes to take a 51-35 lead with 8:22 left in the game.

A three from sophomore Samantha Norwood (Perth, Australia) and a layup off a steal from Brown got Stony Brook within nine with under a minute left to go.

Horsey recorded a career-high in points for the second straight game to earn America East Player of the Game honors. Daniels also recorded a career-high, tallying 13 points. Junior Sarah Kazadi (Bronx, N.Y.) had a game-high seven rebounds.

Feldman had a game-high 17 points and Walton chipped in with 12 for the Huskies.

Stony Brook returns to the court on Monday evening when it hosts Yale University at 6 pm.
