Women's Lacrosse Falls To #16 Denver, 15-5

Denver, Colo. - Denver's Karen Morton and Steph Coyne combined for 11 goals as the Pioneers jumped out to a 5-1 lead and defeated the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team, 15-5 at Peter Barton Stadium on Friday evening. Stony Brook drops to 1-1 while Denver is 1-2.

After Megan Carver scored the first goal of the game, freshman Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) evened the score when she took a pass from senior Elizabeth Montreuil (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and beat Pioneers goalie Becky Childs.

Coyne (3) and Morton combined to score the next four goals for Denver as it took a 5-1 lead. Djaha made the score 5-2 after converting a free-position shot before Morton answered with two more goals.

Junior Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored the Seawolves next two goals to get them within 9-5. Denver scored the final six goals of the contest.

Montreuil had two assists for Stony Brook and senior Diana Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y.) added her second goal of the season

Freshman Jamie Carlson (Glen Cove, N.Y.) made 18 saves in goal for Stony Brook.

Stony Brook is back in action when it takes on the Duquesne Dukes on Sunday morning at Peter Barton Stadium. First draw control is scheduled for 12 pm eastern time.
