Brown's Meghan Markowski scored the first two goals of the game as the Bears never trailed and went on to defeat the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team, 15-8. Stony Brook drops to 2-2 on the season while Brown improves to 2-3. Senior Diana Caroleo (North Babylon, N.Y.) had three goals and an assist to lead the Seawolves.
Markowski scored the first three of Brown's four goals to start the game as it opened up a 4-0 lead with 19:52 to go in the first half. Caroleo finally got Stony Brook on the board, scoring an unassisted goal at the 11:17 mark. Markowski answered back with her fourth goal of the game as the Bears scored four straight to take a 9-1 lead into the locker room.
After Brown scored to make it 10-1, the Seawolves' offense came to life. Stony Brook scored five straight goals to cut the Brown lead to 10-6 with 15:38 left to go in the game. Freshman Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) had two goals in the span and junior Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) capped it off with a unassisted goal.
Kara Kelly scored two of the next three goals for Brown before Caroleo tallied two goals to cut the Brown advantage to 13-8. Brown tallied two goals with under a minute to seal the win.
Stony Brook is home on Wednesday afternoon for Sacred Heart. First draw control is scheduled for 3 pm.
