Freshmen Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) had four goals and the Seawolves tied a school-record with 22 goals as the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team took a 6-0 lead en route to a 22-11 victory over Marist in non-conference action. Senior Elizabeth Montreuil (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) added a career-high four goals and senior Diana Caroleo had seven points on three goals and four assists.
Djaha opened the Stony Brook (7-6) scoring with a goal off an assist from Caroleo. 14 seconds later, Cook scored to make it 2-0. Montreuil scored two of the Seawolves next four goals as Stony Brook took a 6-0 lead with 19:23 to go in the first half.
Marist (7-7) got on the board after Lindsay Rinefierd scored with 18:39 on the clock. Jessica O'Brien's goal made the score 7-2 but two goals from Cook and a goal from Caroleo pushed the lead back up to seven, 9-2.
Stony Brook scored the final four goals of the first half to take its biggest halftime lead of the season, a 16-5 advantage.
The freshmen duo of Cook and Djaha and junior Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored goals to open the second half as the Seawolves had a 19-5 lead. Freshman Abby Juliani (Jenkintown, Pa.) and junior Kim Wodiska (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored their first goals of the season in the second half.
Sophomore Mickey Cahill (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was terrific in goal, making 10 saves. Junior Kim Quartier (Cicero, N.Y.) had a game-high nine ground balls and six draw controls.
Stephanie Garland had four goals to lead Marist. Kellie Considine chipped in with two goals. Red Foxes' leading scorer Lindsey Diener, who came into today's game with 55 points (34g, 21a) was held to just two assists.
Stony Brook completes America East play with a game at state rival Albany on Saturday afternoon. First draw is scheduled for 1 pm.
