Stony Brook University's women's cross country is ranked 26th in the country, according to the Women's Division I XC Poll released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women's team ranked third in the Northeast region, while the men's team took tenth.
Oregon is the clear-cut favorite on the women's side, receiving 10 of 12 first place votes. They are followed by Florida State and Washington, who each received one first place vote.
In the Northeast Regional, Stony Brook, which was picked first in the America East preseason poll, ranks behind No. 1 Providence College and No. 2 Boston College. The Friars finished first in last year's Northeast Regional Championship, with Stony Brook and Boston College taking second and third respectively.
Coming off an eighth place finish at last year's Regional Championship, the men's team is the highest ranked America East school in the Northeast Regional. New Hampshire (12) and Binghamton (14) also made the top 15.
The Seawolves next meet will be this Saturday at the Iona Meet of Champions, which will be held in Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
