Charlotte, N.C. -
Sophomore quarterback Michael Coulter (Yorba Linda, Calif.) has been named the Big South Conference's Choice Hotels Co-Offensive Player of the Week the league announced today for his play in Stony Brooks 27-20 win at VMI on Saturday. It is the first Big South Player of the Week award for Coulter, who shares the award with Gardner-Webb running back Patrick Hall. It is the fifth week this season that a Stony Brook player has been recognized by the conference for their play.
Coulter put together his second 300-yard passing game in his last three games to lead Stony Brook past VMI, for its first road win of the season. He completed 28-of-44 passes (.636) for 316 yards and two touchdowns, and engineered the Seawolves' game-winning drive. Twelve of his completions were good for 10-or-more yards and his 28 completions are the second-most in school history. After VMI took a 20-19 lead with 2:56 remaining, Coulter completed four of five passes for 32 yards, including three-straight. One of the completions was a key third-down play that resulted in a first down and set up the game-winning score. Coulter later threw a completion for a successful two-point conversion.
