Cross Country Competes At NCAA Regionals

Boston, Mass. - Stony Brook's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday afternoon. Junior Holly Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) was the top finisher for the women's team and junior Tim Hodge (Tawa, New Zealand) crossed first for the men's team.

In leading the women's team to a third-place finish, Van Dalen ran the women's 6K race in 22:43, good for 14th overall. Junior Lucy van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) finished right behind her as she crossed the finished line one second later. Senior captain Laura Huet (Carrickmines, Ireland) placed 18th overall (22:46) and was followed 27 seconds later by junior Lisa Voltaire (Stockholm, Sweden), who finished 31st overall. Sophomore Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand) capped the Seawolves' third-place finish with a time of 23:51, good for 62nd overall.

Out of 40 teams, the men's squad finished in 14th place. Hodge ran the 10K race in 32:18 with an individual finish of 32nd. Senior Alex Felce (Stroud, England) finished 33rd with a time of 32:28. Also finishing in the top-100 were senior Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland), who crossed the finish line in 69th place (33:15) and sophomore Gerard Harley's (Setauket, N.Y.) 86th-place finish (33:35).

Both squads will await any at-large berths to be announced later this week.
