Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Arin West (Toms River, N.J.) of the Stony Brook University football team has been named the SimplexGrinnell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week it was announced today. A safety, West was a key performer in Stony Brook's 24-14 win at Gardner-Webb on Saturday, a victory that kept the Seawolves perfect in Big South play at 4-0.

West matched his career-high with 11 tackles at Gardner-Webb, making eight of his stops in the first half. On the Runnin' Bulldogs third play of the second half he scooped up a Bulldog fumble and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown that tied the game. On Gardner-Webb's next series he forced another fumble that the Seawolves recovered to halt GWU drive that had reached the Stony Brook 25-yard line. He also broke up a Bulldog pass attempt late in the fourth quarter and helped the Seawolves hold their opponent to just six rushing yards in the second half.
