Loyola's Grace Gavin had a game-high five goals and Abby Rehfuss added three to lead the Greyhounds to a 15-7 win over the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team at LaValle Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) had two goals and three assists to lead the Seawolves, who fall to 0-2 while Loyola is 1-0.
With the score tied at two, Gavin scored two of Loyola's four straight goals as it took a 6-2 lead. A minute later, senior Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied her first goal of the season but Gavin answered for the Greyhounds with three straight goals as they led 9-3. Sophomores Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) and Courtney Bertolone (Farmingville, N.Y.) scored the final goals of the first half on assists from Leggio as Stony Brook trailed 9-5.
Leggio scored 1:04 into the second half to get the Seawolves within three however Loyola answered with five straight goals to put the game away.
Djaha and Celano finished with two goals each and Colleen O'Keefe had five points on two goals and three assists.
Stony Brook is back in action on Sunday afternoon when it faces Oregon at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. First draw control is scheduled for 12 pm.
