Stony Brook, N.Y. -
After leading the Stony Brook University softball team to a 4-1 start, junior Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has been named the SimplexGrinnell Athlete of the Week. Kavitsky hit .643 (9-for-14) in five games with a double, three triples and a home run. The 4-1 start is the best since Stony Brook joined Division I.
Kavitsky opened the 2009 season with a bang, hitting a home run in the Seawolves' first at-bat of the year. Later that day, Kavitsky hit a walk-off triple in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Stony Brook to a 6-5 victory over Villanova. The junior finished the weekend with a 1.357 slugging percentage and a .750 on base percentage.
