Women's Lacrosse Tops Yale, 15-9

March 7, 2009

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Seniors Amy Hallion (Glenelg, Australia) and Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) each had three goals and junior Mickey Cahill (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made 14 saves in the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team's 15-9 win over Yale, in non-conference action at LaValle Stadium on Saturday. Senior Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added a season-high six points on two goals and four assists.

Stony Brook (2-4) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 10 minutes of action, getting a pair of goals from Celano and tallies from sophomore Victoria Cable (Oakton, Va.), Hallion and Leggio. The Seawolves led by as many as six, 8-2 on a goal from sophomore Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.). Cahill made eight saves on 13 Yale shots in the first half.

Jenn Walden, who had a game-high four goals for the Bulldogs (1-3), scored twice to get Yale within five, 9-4. But goals from Hallion and sophomore Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.) put an end to any threat Yale posed. The Bulldogs and Seawolves traded goals until senior Kim Wodiska's (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) fifth goal of the year gave Stony Brook a commanding 14-6 lead. Freshman Jackie Hughes (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored her second of the year with 1:41 left.

Stony Brook starts a two-game road swing starting with Sacred Heart on Wednesday afternoon. First draw control is scheduled for 3 pm.
