Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Sophomore Matt Brevi (Tampa, Fla.) of the Stony Brook University football team has been named the SimplexGrinell Stony Brook Athlete of the Week after his play in the Seawolves' thrilling, 21-20, win over Brown on Saturday. He accounted for 221 all-purpose yards in the victory over the Bears.
A wide receiver in his first year on the team, Brevi had an outstanding night both as a receiver and kick returner. Brevi could not be stopped on kick returns as he ran back three kickoffs for 59, 36, and 51 yards, with his first return setting up Stony Brook's first touchdown of the game. His 140 return yards set a LaValle Stadium record and he became the second player in Big South Conference history to have two returns of 50+ yards in a game. He also led the team with five catches for 76 yards, with three of his receptions coming on the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter.
