Looking to go 5-0 in the Big South Conference for the first time since joining the league in 2008, the Stony Brook football team hosts Gardner-Webb in the final regular-season home game of the season. The Seawolves are coming off their third straight win, 37-7, over Presbyerian on Saturday. Junior Michael Coulter passed for 212 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, including two to sophomore Jordan Gush. Coulter threw TD passes of 10, 48, 7 and 23 yards. He's thrown a TD in 15 of the last 16 games, and also has a touchdown pass in all but three games during his Stony Brook career. Sophomore Miguel Maysonet rushed for 130 yards on 20 carries, surpassing 1,000 yards for the season. He ranks third among all FCS sophomores with 111.9 yards per game. It was the Seawolves' third straight game with at least five touchdowns, as they outgained the Blue Hose, 509-176. Today's game is Fan Appreciation Day as well as Commuter Student Day.
Opponent
Gardner-Webb (2-6, 1-3) lost to Liberty, 40-14, last Saturday. Tied 7-7, the Flames scored 26 unanswered points over three quarters. Jamal Patmon and John Rock accounted for the Bulldogs' touchdowns. Patrick Hall has five rushing touchdowns and Patmon leads all receivers with four touchdowns. Rock and Chandler Browning have taken the majority of the snaps at quarterback. Rock has passed for 1,127 yards and seven touchdowns, but has thrown 10 interceptions. Dami Teniola leads the defense with 57 tackles. Preston Pemasa has 5.5 sacks and Gianni Olivas has three interceptions.
Series
Gardner-Webb is one of three teams to defeat Stony Brook during Big South play. The Bulldogs topped the Seawolves, 34-33, in 2008 despite a combined 330 yards from Eddie Gowins and Conte Cuttino. Last year, Stony Brook scored 17 unanswered points and shut out Gardner-Webb in the second half to win 24-14. Coulter had two touchdowns, including a 21-yard score to Gush that put the game away. Senior Arin West had a 16-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown on the Bulldogs' opening drive of the second half.
