Stony Brook, N.Y. - Spots are still available for the Worth 5-Tool clinic on January 16 at Stony Brook's Indoor Sports Complex featuring pitcher Monica Abbott of the U.S. National Team and other top softball instructors. The clinic will run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is open for interested parties ages 9-17.
The clinic will stress the development of softball's five tools -- hitting for average, hitting for power, speed, throwing and fielding. Participants will use state-of-the-art equipment provided by Worth and will receive a full day of training from top softball instructors, including Monica Abbott of Team USA. Participants will also receive a Worth t-shirt and sack pack, plus the chance to win great prizes.
After making her first appearance with Team USA in 2005, Abbott has quickly established herself as one of the most dominant pitchers in the game today. A silver medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Abbott tossed the first-ever perfect game for a U.S. pitcher in Olympic play on Aug. 18, 2008 in an 8-0 victory over the Netherlands. Abbott helped the United States take gold at the 2006 and 2010 ISF World Championships and led the team with a 12-0 record in 2009 as the squad captured gold at the Canada Cup and the Pan American qualifiers. At the University of Tennessee, Abbott set NCAA career records in victories (189), strikeouts (2,440), shutouts (112) and innings pitched (1,448) to go along with 23 career no-hitters and six perfect games.
