Feb. 18, 2010

Final Stats

Denver, Colo. - Stony Brook's women's lacrosse team opened its two-game road trip with a 14-4 loss to Denver at Peter Barton Stadium on Thursday. Junior Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) led the Seawolves with two goals and juniors Victoria Cable (Oakton, Va.) and Trish Molfetta (Carmel, N.Y.) had a goal apiece.

Denver scored the game's first five goals before Cable's free-position goal with 17:38 left in the first half got Stony Brook on the board. Molfetta had three ground balls in the first 30 minutes for the Seawolves, who were 15-for-19 on clear attempts.

The Pioneers led by as many as 13, 14-1, but Stony Brook answered as Molfetta scored her first career goal. Sophomore Jackie Hughes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) controlled the following draw and the ball eventually found freshman Nicolle Moran (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) whose shot hit the post. Sophomore Abby Ford (Baltimore, Md.) also had a shot during the same sequence but her free-position attempt was saved.

Djaha scored the game's final two goals.

Molfetta led the Seawolves with a career-high six ground balls. Hughes and Molfetta each finished with three ground balls.

Stony Brook concludes the road trip with a game vs. Duquesne in Denver. First draw is scheduled for 2 pm Eastern.
