Cambridge, Mass. -
After leading the Stony Brook University softball team to a 4-0 record last weekend, seniors Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) have been named the America East Player and Pitcher of the week, respectively. Kavitsky hit .625 (10-16) during the Stony Brook Invitational while Struzenberg tossed a no-hitter and broke a pair of school records. This is the second time this season Struzenberg has earned the award.
Half of Kavitsky's hits went for doubles, resulting in a .938 slugging percentage for the weekend. The senior shortstop had her best game against Fairfield when she went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of doubles. Struzenberg, who allowed just five hits in 18.2 innings of work, broke Stony Brook's all-time wins and shutouts records. She recorded her 59th victory against Yale and her 19th career shutout in a no-hit effort against Fairfield. She recorded 20 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run all weekend.
