Stony Brook's women's lacrosse team fell to Albany, 17-5, at John Fallon Field on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Nicolle Moran (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Seawolves (3-9, 1-2 America East) with two goals. Juniors Trish Molfetta (Carmel, N.Y.) and Courtney Bertolone (Farmingville, N.Y.) and freshman Jessica Romano (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a goal apiece. Kayla Best led Albany (9-1, 3-0) with four goals.
Albany led 9-0 after the first half. Bertolone scored the Seawolves' first goal a little over three minutes into the second half. After the Great Danes took an 11-goal lead, Moran, who's Stony Brook's leading freshmen scorer with 12 points on ten goals and two assists, scored at the 21:21 mark.
Moran made it 13-3 after a free-position goal. 50 seconds later, Romano scored on an assist from sophomore Abby Ford (Baltimore, Md.). Molfetta scored with 1:38 left in the game.
Senior Kelley Sweeney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) recorded three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore Jackie Hughes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) tallied a team-high four ground balls. Junior Mickey Cahill (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished with 13 saves.
The Seawolves will be back in action for their final home game of the 2010 season on Saturday against New Hampshire at 1 pm. Sweeney and senior Bridgid Callahan (Hanover, Md.) will be honored prior to the game.
