Gowins, Rousseau Earn Big South Weekly Honors

Sept. 27, 2010

Charlotte, N.C. - Junior running back Edwin Gowins (Bellport, N.Y.) and senior defensive end Jonas Rousseau (Brooklyn, N.Y.) have been named Big South Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Monday.

Gowins, who played for the first time since the season opener at South Florida, rushed 13 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. The TD was the 22nd of his career, tying him with Oliver Bridges '91 for second all-time in school history. He also became the first FCS player to rush for 100 yards against UMass in five games, and recorded his 10th career 100-yard game.

Rousseau set a career-high with nine tackles against the Minutemen, including four for a loss. He sacked quarterback Kyle Havens for a loss of eight yards, and was instrumental in holding UMass to a field goal on a first-and goal from the five.

The Seawolves will enjoy a bye week before opening Big South Conference play against VMI at home on October 9 at 3:30 p.m.
