Green Wins Stony Brook Invitational; Whitfield Finishes Second

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand) placed first and junior Patricia Barry (Tipperary, Ireland) finished second to lead the Stony Brook University women's cross country team to a second place finish at the 2010 Stony Brook Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Senior Iain Whitfield (Stroud, England) and freshman Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) finished second and third, respectively, as the SBU men's team took second as well.

Green finished the 4100 meter course in 14:39.77 to earn the win in the Seawolves first meet of the year. Barry finished 20 seconds behind Green, 38 seconds in front of the third-place finisher. Whitfield ran the 6200 meter course in 20:00.49, just over four seconds behind Leonard Korir from Iona.

Speakman ran the course in 20:17.29 to take third among the 37 runners. Freshman Sam Kimmey (Clifton, Park, N.Y.) finished 10th for the Seawolves, finishing in 21:14.74. Junior Page Price (Tampa, Fla.) finished just outside the top 10 for the women, taking 11th (16:00.35).

Quinnipiac won the team race for the women with 30 points. The Seawolves were just behind them with 48 points. Iona took first in the men's race (27 points) while SBU totaled 46 points.

The Seawolves return to action next weekend at the Boston College Invitational.
