Stony Brook University's women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Columbia Lions at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Saturday night. Stony Brook is now 1-1 on the season.
Columbia opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Fanny Charliquart (Gueugnon, France) and junior Katherine Hanson (Smithtown, N.Y.) lost 8-5 at No. 1 and junior Prerana Appineni (Hyderabad, India) and sophomore Chloe Pike (Bristol, England) also lost 8-5 at No. 2.
Appineni and Hanson won in singles action at the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively, but Columbia won the other four singles matches to earn the victory. Hanson won for the second straight day, defeating Natasha Makarova in straight sets.
The Seawolves return to action on Friday, traveling to take on Army. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
