Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Kirsten Jeter (Elmont, N.Y.) scored 19 points but the New Hampshire Wildcats hit eight three-pointers and shot 57 percent from the field on their way to 72-58 victory over the Stony Brook University women's basketball team on Wednesday at Pritchard Gymnasium.

Jeter now has 1,400 points for her career, becoming just the seventh player in program history to hit that mark. She also pulled down a team-high six rebounds and had four steals. Jill McDonald led three Wildcats in double-figures with 20 points while Lauren Wells added 17.

Stony Brook (4-19, 1-10 AE) jumped to a 10-2 lead as four different players scored in the first four minutes. But New Hampshire (8-16, 5-7 AE) answered with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to take its first lead of the game.

The Seawolves took a 21-20 lead on two Jeter free throws with 7:30 left but the Wildcats went on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 34-23 lead. Sophomore Sam Landers (Springfield, Va.) hit a three to end the run but Wells drilled her third trifecta of the half with 15 seconds left to send UNH into the break with a 37-26 advantage.

The teams traded hoops over the first five minutes of the second half before a three-point play from Kate Early gave the Wildcats a 51-38 lead with 12:40 left. But the Seawolves held New Hampshire to just one field goal over the next five minutes, cutting the Wildcats lead to 53-47 on a jumper from junior Whitney Davis (Muskegon, Mich.).

Wells converted a three-point play to push the lead back to nine and Sarah Frankenberger followed a Jeter hoop with a three to make it 59-49 with 5:30 remaining. Stony Brook got within seven on two Jeter free throws with 3:43 to go but New Hampshire scored the next five points and the Seawolves got no closer than eight the rest of the way.

Davis chipped in with 10 points for the Seawolves, while Denise Beliveau recorded a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) to earn America East Player of the Game honors for New Hampshire. Jeter earned Player of the Game honors for the Seawolves.

New Hampshire went 8-for-14 from beyond the arc and scored 25 points off 18 Stony Brook turnovers. The Seawolves went 11-for-12 from the foul line but shot 36.7 percent from the field.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday, taking on Maine at 2 p.m. at Stony Brook Arena. The game will follow the men's 11 a.m. contest against the Black Bears.
