Stony Brook, N.Y. -
Dan Mulrooney, a transfer from Boston College, has accepted a grant-in-aid offer to play football for the Seawolves, head coach Chuck Priore announced on Wednesday. Mulrooney missed last season due to an injury, but played in 12 games in 2009.
"The addition of Dan to our roster helps us sure up our depth at weak-side safety," Priore said. "His experience at the FBS level also will be a plus for our team."
An offensive and defensive standout for Holy Cross High School in Connecticut, Mulrooney earned all-state honors as a junior and senior. He was the 2006 Naugatuck Valley League Player of the Year, running for 1,913 yards and 38 touchdowns. In the CIAC Class SS state title game, Mulrooney earned MVP honors after running for 356 yards and four touchdowns on just 21 carries. As a senior, he made 80 tackles, including five sacks, and three interceptions.
Stony Brook begins spring practice on March 18. All practices will be held at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium and are open to the public. The 2011 season opener is on Saturday, September 3, as the Seawolves travel to face the University of Texas at El Paso.
