March 27, 2011

Final Stats

Victoria Cable (Oakton, Va.) scored three goals to give her 12 goals in her last four games, but the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team lost at Vermont 15-7 Sunday in the teams' America East opener. Kaila Gottlick (Madison, Conn.) chipped in two goals and an assist for the Seawolves.

Cable now has 18 goals on the season, setting a new season high, and is shooting 64.3 percent on the season. She also had two caused turnovers, two draw controls and a ground ball. Gottlick improved her numbers to 14 goals and six assists for 20 points on the season. Cori Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) provided solid defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The two teams played scoreless ball early on as neither team tallied a goal in the first 10 minutes. Vermont (6-4, 1-0 America East) tallied the first goal at 19:30 and was up 2-0 and then in the final 10 minutes of the half, both teams combined to score a flurry of goals. The Catamounts went into halftime up 7-2.

It was 9-3 when Cable and Gottlick got into gear and brought the Seawolves within striking distance. Cable scored back-to-back goals, one on a free position attempt and one on a pass from Abby Ford (Baltimore, Md.). After Vermont answered with a goal, Gottlick followed with back-to-back goals inside of a minute to pull Stony Brook (3-6, 0-1 America East) within three, 10-7.

However, Vermont buckled down on defense and held the Seawolves scoreless the rest of the way.

Stony Brook will look to regroup as it takes on Albany Saturday at LaValle Stadium at 1 p.m.
