Despite a season-high 15 saves from senior Mickey Cahill (Bay Shore, N.Y.), the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team fell to Johns Hopkins, 15-8, at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Saturday. The Blue Jays (3-1) outscored the Seawolves (2-2), 11-4, in the second half after a 4-4 first half. Senior Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) led SBU with three goals. Colleen McCaffrey paced JHU with four goals and two assists.
Cahill made nine of her 15 saves in the first half, as Stony Brook took its only lead of the game, 4-3, after an unassisted goal from freshman Alyssa Cardillo (Farmingdale, N.Y.). Brooke Foussadier scored 1:16 before halftime to tie the game at four.
Johns Hopkins reeled off six straight goals to open a 10-4 lead. Djaha scored the Seawolves' next two goals, but Hopkins scored three straight, including two from Candace Rossi, as it took a 14-6 lead. Senior Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Cardillo tallied back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to six, 14-8.
Cardillo and Cook each had two goals. Freshman Kaila Gottlick (Madison, Conn.) added a goal and an assist. Cook and senior Victoria Cable (Oakton, Va.) tallied three draw controls apiece.
Stony Brook travels to face Massachusetts in its next game on Saturday, March 12 at 1:00 p.m.
