Charlotte, N.C. -
Stony Brook's 37-20 win over Lafayette has produced numerous conference and national awards. Juniors Miguel Maysonet (Riverhead, N.Y.), Wesley Skiffington (Brandon, Fla.) and Dan Mulrooney (Prospect, Conn.) each claimed awards as a result of the Seawolves' first win of 2011.
Maysonet was named Big South Offensive and College Football Performance Awards Co-Running Back of the Week after a spectacular performance against the Leopards. He ran for 194 yards, a career-high, and four touchdowns, which tied a LaValle Stadium, school and Big South record. He scored on runs of 35, 1, 30, and 9 yards, respectively, and rushed for 156 of his 194 yards in the second half.
Mulrooney was outstanding in his first Stony Brook start, single-handedly keeping Lafayette from scoring a touchdown in the first half. Accounting for eight tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble, Mulrooney made two touchdown-saving tackles in the first half, and ended two Lafayette red-zone drives. The transfer from Boston College also took home CFPA Honorable Mention Defensive Player of the Week.
Skiffington connected on three field goals and all four extra points. His second field goal, a 36-yard strike, broke the school record for points among kickers with 157. In the third quarter, he kicked a career-long 46-yard field goal to give the Seawolves a 23-13. He has 164 points, breaking Mike Soto's previous record of 156. Skiffington also claimed honorable mention honors from the CFPA.
