Sophomore Eric Speakman (Napier, New Zealand) and junior Olivia Burne (Palmerston North, New Zealand) of the Stony Brook men's and women's cross country team were named All-Region and All-Academic on Wednesday.
Speakman, a business management and economics major with a 3.88 GPA, earned All-Region honors for a second straight year after finishing 20th. The America East's individual champion also was named to the All-Academic team for a second straight year.
Burne, who led the Seawolves to their sixth straight conference crowd, returns to the All-Academic team with a 3.94 GPA as a journalism major. She earned all-region honors for the first time in her career.
Senior Kristal Conklin (Middletown, N.Y.) was named All-Academic for the third time in her career and junior Lorraine McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) earned her first America East academic honor.
Conklin is an English major with a 3.75 GPA and McCarthy is a social work major with a 3.68 GPA.
