Softball looks to stay hot at UMBC this weekend

Baltimore, Md. - The Stony Brook softball team will look to continue its stellar play this weekend when it returns to conference action at UMBC. Stony Brook has won five of its first six America East games and seven of its last nine games overall. The three-game series begins Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single game Sunday at noon.

Conference Clash
After sweeping Hartford and taking two from Boston University, the Seawolves (24-9) enter the weekend with a 5-1 record in the America East, good for an .833 winning percentage. Only Albany (.889) has a better winning percentage in conference as the Great Danes have won eight of their first nine conference games. UMBC has struggled thus far with a 1-5 record, however, its only victory came against first-place Albany in March.

UMBC
The Retrievers own a 17-19 overall record, while posting a 12-11 mark at home thus far. Jessica Warner leads UMBC in several statistical categories, boasting a .396 average, 10 home runs and 24 RBI. As a team, the Retrievers have slugged 29 home runs, but have also surrendered 31 to opponents. In the circle, Katie Ferguson is the team's ace, having thrown a team-high 95 innings, while striking out 78. Ferguson owns a 2.58 ERA and has an 8-8 record.

Zeros Galore
Freshman pitcher Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) needs one more shutout to tie Stony Brook's single season record of 11 held by Alyssa Struzenberg. Cukrov has won her last 11 starts and leads the America East with a 1.11 ERA.
