About the Game
The second season begins for Stony Brook as the Seawolves open their America East schedule at home against New Hampshire. Stony Brook, the nation's leader in true road victories, is coming off of five consecutive road games and have not played a home game in 35 days. This is the 25th all-time meeting between these two teams, and the Wildcats lead the series 14-10, but the Seawolves have won four straight and played excellent defense during that stretch, allowing UNH to average only 54 points per game. Stony Brook is 6-5 all-time against UNH at home, 3-1 at Pritchard Gymnasium. Expect this game to be a defensive war - neither team has cracked 70 points in this series in the last four meetings.
Scouting New Hampshire
The Wildcats went 4-8 during the non-conference season, struggling deeply on the road. They've lost seven straight away from Durham. UNH was picked to finish sixth in America East; the team finished seventh last season. The team opened conference play on Wednesday, dropping a 64-51 decision at home to conference favorite Vermont. Ferg Myrick is averaging 16 points a game for the Wildcats, putting him at sixth in the league in scoring, but he is shooting only 39%. Chris Pelcher has been a presence in the middle, averaging 11.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while shooting 56% from the field.
Last Time Out
Stony Brook dug into a defensive battle with Manhattan last Tuesday and it was the Seawolves that held the Jaspers to 34% shooting and forcing 17 turnovers in a 50-44 victory. No SB player scoring in double figures, but eight of the 10 Seawolves that played posted points, including eight apiece from Jameel Warney, Anthony Mayo and Scott King. Tommy Brenton had six points, five rebounds and four assists and made big plays down the stretch on both sides of the ball.
