Brenton named Lou Henson Mid-Major All-America

March 25, 2013

BOSTON - Stony Brook senior forward Tommy Brenton (Columbia, Md.) of the Stony Brook men's basketball team has been named a Lou Henson Mid-Major All-American by CollegeInsider.com, the website organization announced Monday.

Rather than assemble a first team, second team, third team and honorable mention; the Lou Henson All-America team is one squad consisting of 25 players. Brenton is also a finalist for the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Award.

The 6-5 forward wrapped up his career as Stony Brook's most decorated basketball student-athlete. Named the 2013 America East Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Brenton led the Seawolves in rebounds (279, 8.5/game), assists (158, 4.8/game) and steals (54, 1.6/game). His 2.23 assist/turnover ratio ranks 44th in the nation and is first among student-athletes classified as forwards.

Brenton was the co-captain and leader of a Seawolves team that set a new Div. I program record for wins with 25, was part of the program's third America East regular season championship in the last four seasons and helped Stony Brook earn its first-ever national postseason victory, a 71-58 win at Massachusetts in the first round of the NIT.

In his career, Brenton is a two-time first-team All-America East selection and a two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year. He was just the second player in America East history to be named Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. He graduates Stony Brook as the program's all-time leader in rebounds (1,115) and steals (220) and the program's all-time Div. I leader in assists (405). He is tied for third all-time in conference in history in career rebounds, one of just eight players ever in the league to grab over 1,000 rebounds.
