Stony Brook, N.Y. – Senior guard Chikilra Goodman poured in 22 points and went 13-for-14 from the free throw line to lead the Stony Brook women’s basketball team to a 66-62 win over UMBC Monday afternoon in a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day matinee. Junior forward Sabre Proctor scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half.
The win improved Stony Brook to 4-1 in America East action for the first time since 2006-07 and 13-5 overall. It was the first victory for the Seawolves over UMBC since Feb. 27, 2010, a span of seven games.
Goodman finished with a game-high nine rebounds.
Sara Tarbert led UMBC (2-16, 1-5) with 26 points.

Turning Point
Goodman and Brittany Snow combined for 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting to carry the Seawolves to a 26-21 lead at the half.
UMBC scored the first bucket of the second half on a Tarbert layup to pull to within three, 26-23. Stony Brook seized momentum over the next three minutes, forcing six turnovers and capping a 13-0 run when Kori Bayne-Walker dished to Miranda Jenkins for a triple at 16:09 for a 39-23 advantage. Tarbert ended the run with a 3-pointer on the other end, but Proctor scored the next five points for Stony Brook on a trey and a layup to give the Seawolves a 44-26 lead, their largest of the afternoon, with 15:01 left.
UMBC used a 20-6 spurt to close the gap to four, 50-46, on a jumper by Liz McNaughton at the 6:41 mark, and the game remained a single-digit affair thereafter. A Jenkins bucket and two free throws from Jessica Ogunnorin put Stony Brook up by nine, 57-48, with 2:43 on the clock. UMBC scored the next three points to get within six, 57-51, but the Seawolves went 9-for-11 from the line in the final 90 seconds of play.

- Snow, Ogunnorin and Jenkins each tallied seven points, and Snow pulled down seven rebounds.
- Bayne-Walker dished out a game-high six assists.
