New Britain, Conn. - The Stony Brook men's and women's cross country teams raced in the CCSU Mini-Meet Friday afternoon at Central Connecticut State University. The meet was the final one for the #Seawolves before the America East Championships Saturday, Nov. 1 in Orono, Maine.
"This meet was all about giving our middle distance group a chance to race during the fall," Stony Brook cross country coach Andy Ronan said. "While the team scores and placings were not great, the effort was solid and will help them as they continue to prepare for the indoor season."
Sophomore Molly Persky placed 41st overall and first amongst Stony Brook runners in the women's 3k in 10:55.04. Freshman Jane Clark was right behind her, taking 42nd in 10:55.19 in her collegiate debut. Junior Raven Dorsey tallied a time of 11:10.53 and was 61st.
SBU was 13th in a field of 20 squads with 342 points. Boston College secured first with 52 points.
Sophomore Alexander Gifford led the men with a 65th-place finish in a 5k time of 15:58.22. Junior Alex Lopresti was 72nd in 16:05.95, and Brent Freestone clocked in at 16:1227 for 78th.
Stony Brook finished 14th out of 19 teams with 401 points. The hosts won the meet with 52 points.
The America East Championships get underway at 10 a.m. The Seawolves will vie for their seventh women's title in eight years and second men's crown in three years.
