Head Coach Caroline McCombs’ Reaction
On the win
“I’m really proud of our team. I really felt it was a team victory. A lot of different players stepped up and proved they are capable of filling certain roles. Just showing the balance of our team was really important tonight.”
On the importance of starting strong
“Bradley has played great competition. I have a lot of respect for their schedule. For us to jump on them early was critical and for us to sustain that lead and continue to build on that was really important.”
On the balanced scoring
“Those are the things that we see in practice every day, and different people can shine on our team. One person might get the shots one night, and somebody else might get them the next night. Christa hadn’t had a night like that. Miranda had one on Friday. Jess really stepped up tonight as well. I’m really proud of them for waiting for their turn and in that moment being ready for that role.”
On playing at Duke Friday
“I’ll start preparing for them tomorrow. I try to stay focused on the game in front of us and then move forward. From the scores that I have seen and from knowing some of their players, they are a talented team. We’re going to their home court. It’s a tough place to play, and we have nothing to lose. We’re going to go out there and compete for 40 minutes.”
Turning Point
Stony Brook shot a red-hot 64 percent from the field (16-for-25) in the first half and led by as many as 23 points, but Bradley forced five Seawolves turnovers over the final 4:36 of the stanza to slice the margin to 14, 39-25, at the break.
The Braves struck first in the second half, pulling to within 11, 39-28, on a Sameia Kendall 3-pointer at 18:25. However, Bayne-Walker and Snow followed with layups to keep the lead in double figures, 42-28.
The Seawolves continued to surge, matching their largest lead of the game, 66-41, when Miranda Jenkins fed Ogunnorin for a inside for a bucket with 6:50 left.
Bradley did not go down quietly, using a 17-2 run thereafter to claw to within 10, 68-58, on a pair of Michelle Young free throws with 3:19 left. Snow answered with a layup on the other end and later increased the lead to 16, 75-59, with another bucket inside at the two-minute mark.
