Head Coach Steve Pikiell's reaction
"I thought for 27 minutes we hung tough with the defending Big East Champs. It's been a tough grind for some of our young guys. Tre [Carson Puriefoy] was real good for us tonight, and we need him to be that kind of player every night. I think we're going to be really good. But we've had a tough schedule and been on the road for what seems like a long time. I knew this schedule was going to challenge us, and the hope is, come conference play, our guys will be ready."
Turning Point
• Stony Brook erased Providence's eight-point lead early in the second half with a 9-0 run, capped by two free throws from Puriefoy, to take its only lead of the second half, 39-38. But the Friars answered with an 11-2 spurt. Puriefoy's three with 13:42 left in regulation cut PC's lead to five, 49-44, but the Seawolves were outscored, 30-17, the rest of the way.
