Final Stats

Baltimore, Md. – Fueled by 20 points from junior forward Sabre Proctor, the Stony Brook women’s basketball team took down UMBC, 72-51, Wednesday night at RAC Arena. Junior guard Jessica Ogunnorin finished with a career-high 15 points and eight rebounds.   

Senior guards Chikilra Goodman and Teasha Harris added 11 points apiece, and Goodman dished out six helpers for Stony Brook (19-7, 10-3 America East). Sophomore forward Brittany Snow added six points and tied Ogunnorin for a game-high eight rebounds.

Liz McNaughton tallied 13 points as UMBC fell to 3-23 overall and 2-12 in conference action.

Turning Point

The Seawolves led, 24-11, at 8:19 of the first half behind 11 points from Proctor. UMBC climbed to within six, 24-18, on a pair of free throws by Sara Tarbert with just under five minutes until intermission. Ogunnorin answered with a jumper at 4:48, and Harris drained a triple about one minute later to push the advantage back to double digits, 29-18.

Stony Brook led by eight, 29-21, in the final minute when Proctor grabbed a defensive rebound and got the ball to Goodman, who raced down the court for a layup with 25 ticks on the clock. Snow added a pair of free throws eight seconds before halftime that gave the Seawolves a 33-21 lead. 

SB led by double figures for all but 32 seconds in the second half and took its largest advantage of the game, 72-49, on a Proctor trifecta at 2:16.   

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore guard Miranda Jenkins tallied seven points and three helpers.
  • Stony Brook held a 29-25 edge on the glass and 14-5 lead in offensive rebounds. The Seawolves are 18-4 when winning the battle of the boards.
  • The Seawolves forced 28 UMBC turnovers and only committed nine turnovers. Proctor recorded a game-high three steals. 

News and Notes

  • The Seawolves’ 19 wins are the second most in Division I program history, one behind the record of 20 set in 2005-06.
  • Stony Brook evened the all-time series at 12-all.
  • The Seawolves improved to 10-5 on the road.
  • Proctor moved into sole possession of seventh on Stony Brook’s all-time double-digit scoring ledger with 38 career games in double figures. Ferraro scored in double figures 37 times from 2004-08. Next on the list is Lauren Ruane (42, 1995-99).
  • Proctor has scored 10 or more points in all but three of Stony Brook’s games this season and has reached the 20-point plateau nine times.
  • Stony Brook has now swept America East foes Binghamton, UMass Lowell and UMBC.
