#Seawolves fall to No. 19 Fairfield, 15-13

The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team overcame a 10-2 deficit to get within one late in the fourth quarter, but Fairfield held on for a 15-13 victory Saturday at Alumni Field.

Junior Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.) scored a career-high six goals to lead the Seawolves (3-4).

Sophomore Matt Schultz (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied a career-high four goals and added three assists for a career-best seven points.

Sophomore Challen Rogers (Coquitlam, British Columbia) had a goal and three assists.

TJ Neubauer led Fairfield (4-2) with five goals. Colin McLinden added two goals and two assists for the Stags, who led Stony Brook, 10-4, at halftime.

Head Coach Jim Nagle's Reaction
"Fairfield is a very strong team that executes well especially in the half field. We showed some poor fundamentals and that opened the door for them a couple of times. We need to be more consistent with our fundamentals and that starts with becoming more physical."

Turning Point
After Stony Brook answered on a goal from Rooney late in the first quarter, Fairfield scored eight of the next nine goals. Schultz added two man-up goals late in the second quarter as Stony Brook trailed by six, 10-4, at halftime.

Stony Brook entered the fourth quarter trailing 13-9. After junior Bryan Judge (Melville, N.Y.) caused a turnover, sophomore Dylan Curry (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored a goal with the long pole off an assist from the Schultz. Rooney added two straight goals just a minute apart as the Seawolves were down only one, 13-12, with 9:04 remaining.

Neubauer answered with a goal three minutes later and another with 1:49 left in regulation.

By The Numbers
• Freshman Kyle Rowe (Vienna, Va.) again was outstanding at the 'X', winning 20 of 31 draws to go along with nine ground balls
• Sophomore Dan Shaughnessy (Sudbury, Mass.) and freshman Hayden Johnstone (Toronto, Ontario) split time in goal.  Shaughnessy played the first half and Johnstone the second half
• Stony Brook's starting attack accounted for 11 of the 13 goals
• Stony Brook had 31 ground balls to Fairfield's 30
• The Seawolves scored two man-up goals
• Both teams were perfect clearing the ball - Stony Brook 12 of 12 and Fairfield 18 of 18

• Schultz has at least four points in his last three games
• The last four games of the season have been separated by three goals or less
