Cambridge, Mass. - Senior Eric Speakman of the Stony Brook men's cross country team has been named America East Male Performer of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

Speakman posted an conference-best 8k time of 25:16 at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown Friday. He placed 41st in a field of 184 runners and helped Stony Brook finish 12th out of 19 squads at the national meet.

The race was the second of 2014 for Speakman, who won the 6k Stony Brook Season Opener in 16:02.65 Saturday, Aug. 30.

Speakman and the Seawolves next race at the Princeton Invitational Saturday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m.
