Head Coach Caroline McCombs’ Reaction

On the win

“This was just a really great team win. The team was relentless on the glass and never really let down despite giving up a lot of 3-point shots. We really moved the ball around and got good shots on offense.”

On hitting the midway point of conference play

“It starts with Hartford on Thursday. That will be our last home contest in the first round of games. We just need to prepare our team every game and take it one day at a time. For my staff and me, we have now seen the teams and players live once, which we hadn’t had the opportunity to do before. Now, we can look at make adjustments — what worked, what didn’t work as well.”

Turning Point

A Jasmine Sina layup with 10:57 to play got the Bearcats within five, 45-40.  The guests missed their next five shots from the floor, and Stony Brook took its first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 56-46, on a Bayne-Walker short-range jumper with 3:51 left. After Sina answered with a trifecta, Christa Scognamiglio came back with a layup-and-1. She missed the free throw but Stony Brook led, 58-49.

Proctor converted a three-point play with 2:35 on the clock that stretched the advantage to 12, 61-49, and Gintare Surdokaite was called for an offensive foul on the other end. Bayne-Walker sank both her shots from the charity stripe, giving Stony Brook a 63-49 advantage with 2:08 to play.

Binghamton cut the margin to 12, 63-51, on two Asia Baker free throws at the 1:49 mark, but Scognamiglio put in a layup 10 seconds later.
