Louisville, Ky. - Stony Brook women’s cross country junior Christina Melian (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded a 10th-place finish at the 2015 Pre-National Invitational Saturday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park.

Coach Ronan’s Take
“Christina had a very good run today. The goal was to be in the top 10. That was achieved. Considering that this was her first time over the 6,000-meter distance this season, and the quality of the field, I feel it was a particularly important performance as we now approach the championship season. She is establishing herself as one of the top cross country runners in the region and gaining a lot of respect on the national stage too.

“This performance against a national class field of athletes, will boast her confidence for the championship season that begins in two weeks.”

Highlights
- Melian finished the 6K in 20:13.6, good for a 10th-place finish.
- Melian was 13.1 seconds shy of the winning time, recorded by Erin Clark of Colorado, who won the race in 20:00.5.
