Stony Brook, N.Y. -
In preparation for the season opener against Merchant Marine Academy on November 14, the Stony Brook men's basketball team will hold its first official practice tomorrow morning at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
Head Coach Steve Pikiell returns all five starters from last year's squad, including senior tri-captains Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.), Carson Puriefoy (Wenonah, N.J.) and Rayshaun McGrew (Chicago, Ill.).
Warney, the two-time reigning America East Player of the Year, led Division I in double-doubles (24) and total rebounds (409) and America East in points (16.4), rebounding (11.7) and blocks (2.5).
Puriefoy averaged a career-best 14.4 points per game and earned first team all-conference honors last season.
After totaling 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore, McGrew, a third team all-conference selection, improved those totals to the tune of 8.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game last season.
