Tip-Off: The Stony Brook's men's basketball team begins its 56th season of varsity competition and 17th in Division I Saturday against USMMA.  The Seawolves have won three straight season openers and are 6-4 in openers under coach Steve Pikiell.

Opponent: USMMA was picked to finish sixth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll.  It is led by senior David Smith, who led the team in scoring (16.3) and rebounding (6.0).  He made a school-record 85 threes last season.  Junior Matt Miller scored in double figures in 22 of 25 games, including seven games of at least 20 points, a year ago.  The Mariners are coached by Steve Hayn, a 1,000-point scorer for Stony Brook from 1989-91.

Series: Stony Brook won last year's matchup, 89-54.  It was the first meeting since 1994, when the then-Patriots were a Division III program.  Stony Brook is 24-11 all-time against USMMA.
