Stony Brook falls at Hartford, 56-49

West Hartford, Conn. -- Sophomore Kori Bayne-Walker led three Seawolves in double figures with 12 points, but the Stony Brook women's basketball team suffered a 56-49 setback at Hartford Sunday in its regular-season finale.

Sophomore Christa Scognamiglio scored 11 points, and senior Jessica Ogunnorin added 10 points for Stony Brook (17-12, 10-6 America East). Senior Sabre Proctor grabbed a team-high 10 boards.

Cherelle Moore tallied 17 points and 12 boards for Hartford (14-16, 8-8).

Turning Point

The Seawolves trailed by seven, 26-19, with 18:55 on the clock but used a 12-5 spurt and evened the score at 31-31 on a Scognamiglio trey at 14:52. Deanna Mayza and Ogunnorin traded layups to put the score at 33-33 with 14:11 left, but the Hawks went on a 14-4 run and took their first double-digit lead of the game, 47-37, when Mayza sank a pair of free throws at 6:18.

Scognamiglio broke up the spurt with a trifecta at 5:29, Stony Brook's first field goal since a Proctor layup at 11:44. La'Trice Hall responded with a layup, and Amber Bepko knocked down two free throws to put Hartford up by 11, 51-40, with 4:32 to play.

The Seawolves chipped away with a 9-2 run capped when Bayne-Walker converted a three-point play to pull them to within four, 53-49, at 1:41. Hartford called timeout, and Mayza missed a layup on the other end. Ogunnorin grabbed the defensive rebound but missed on a 3-point attempt with 33 seconds on the clock and Hartford went 3-for-4 from the stripe in the final minute.
