Rooney tallies nine points in 17-15 loss to Albany

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Despite five goals and four assists from senior Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.), the Stony Brook men's lacrosse team fell to Albany, 17-15, Saturday at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

Junior Brody Eastwood (Victoria, British Columbia) added for goals for the Seawolves (5-2, 0-1 America East).

Junior Chris Hughes (Oceanside, N.Y.) had two goals. Junior Matt Schultz (Smithtown, N.Y.) tallied a goal and two assists.

Connor Fields and Seth Oakes had four goals apiece for Albany (3-1, 1-0). Lyle Thompson totaled two goals and 10 assists.

"Albany scores a lot of goals and their offense puts a lot of pressure on you, so it's a testament to our team's character that they were able to bounce back and tie the game. Our defense is continuing to grow and get better.

Key Moment
Stony Brook rallied after trailing by as many as five goals to tie the game at 13 after Rooney's score with 17 seconds left in the third quarter. The goal was Stony Brook's fourth straight to end the quarter. But Albany outscored the Seawolves, 4-2, in the final quarter.
