Stony Brook, N.Y. -- Junior Alyssa Fleming and freshman Kylie Ohlmiller of the No. 12/8 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team have been named America East Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The honor is the second straight for Fleming and fourth straight for Ohlmiller.
The duo helped the Seawolves improve to 9-0 with blowout wins over Rutgers and Oregon. Stony Brook is one of two unbeaten teams in the nation.
Fleming, who was named Baltimore Sun National Player of the Week Friday, led a defensive unit that allowed seven goals in two games. She shared the game lead in caused turnovers (3) vs. Rutgers and helped the Seawolves limit Rutgers to seven shots, the fewest let up by the squad's heralded defense this season. Fleming was tops in ground balls (3) vs. Oregon, and SBU held the Ducks scoreless over the final 24:54. The honorable mention Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American has helped Stony Brook limit 27 of its last 30 opponents to single-digit goals, including eight of nine opponents this season.
Ohlmiller led conference freshmen in goals per game (2.00), assists per game (1.50) and points per game (3.50). She tallied three goals, two helpers and a game-high four caused turnovers vs. Oregon and has recorded multiple points in each of her first nine collegiate games.
Fleming, Ohlmiller and the Seawolves will host Binghamton Wednesday at 7 p.m.
