Opponent
CCSU fell to Lehigh, 20-14, in the season opener last week in New Britain. The Blue Devils were picked to finish sixth in the Northeast Conference behind second-year head coach Pete Rossomando.
The Series
This will be the 12th meeting between the two schools. Stony Brook owns an 8-3 series advantage, including two straight wins. The series began on Oct. 12, 1996 when SBU defeated CCSU, 52-7 at Stony Brook. The Seawolves are a perfect 6-0 against the Blue Devils at home.
Captains
Stony Brook’s captains for the 2015 season are seniors QB Conor Bednarski (South Pasadena, Calif.), OL Jerry Hubshman (Dunmore, Pa.) and LB Jeremy Leggeiro (Bohemia, N.Y.).
Seawolves Radio Network
Stony Brook Athletics begins a dynamic three-year agreement with Connoisseur Media Long Island, Long Island’s premier media cluster, to broadcast Seawolves’ football games beginning in the fall of 2015. Over the next three seasons, 94.3 The Shark will air all regular and postseason Stony Brook Football games. The radio agreement is the most comprehensive in the history of Stony Brook athletics, marking the first time that all football will air live on a commercial radio station. In addition to the large radio broadcast coverage area, Connoisseur Media Long Island also provides live streaming on all station websites, including 943TheShark.com, so fans around the world can listen via computer or mobile device. The broadcast stream is also live on StonyBrookAthletics.com. Broadcast veteran Josh Caray and former NFL star Erik Coleman will provide the call of every down during the season, while long-time Stony Brook radio personality Curt Hylton will provide pregame, halftime and postgame content.
Touchdown Pledge Drive
In conjunction with Uplifting Athletes, the Seawolves are holding a Touchdown Pledge Drive in 2015 in support of research for Medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumor in children. With each touchdown scored this season, money will go towards raising awareness and research funds in honor of Joe Feminella, the Seawolves 16-year-old co-captain who was diagnosed with the disease when he was 5. The Stony Brook football team and Joe have enjoyed a relationship since 2009.
Season Openers
Stony Brook is 8-8 in season openers since moving to Division I in 1999. The Seawolves have won two of the last three openers, including at Rhode Island in 2013.
