Stony Brook, N.Y. -
The Stony Brook men’s and women’s cross country teams host their second of three meets on campus this fall with the Wolfie Invitational Saturday morning.
Conference foes Binghamton, UMBC and New Hampshire will join the Seawolves as the teams run the distance of the America East Championships, to be hosted by Stony Brook Saturday, Oct. 31. This weekend’s meet will begin with the women’s 5K at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 11:15 a.m.
“This week I am looking for two things,” said head coach Andy Ronan. “The first is how we handle the full championship distance, particularly the men's team over the longer distance. Then we are trying to get a feel for where we are in relation to the other conference teams. We have both defending team champions in the meet, so it will be interesting to see how we handle ourselves against them."
The Seawolves competed last weekend at home for the Stony Brook Season Opener. The men won the team title in the 6K, led by a second-place finish from senior Mitchell Kun (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The women finished second in the 4K, with junior Christina Melian (Staten Island, N.Y.) finishing first individually.
The meet will have a first-time team champion on both the men’s and women’s side with the competing conference programs in this Saturday’s meet. Providence won the men’s and women’s team titles in 2013 and 2014.
