FULL 2017 SCHEDULE

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook head men's lacrosse coach Jim Nagle released the Seawolves' 2017 schedule on Tuesday, which features two games against teams that were ranked in the top five in both the Inside Lacrosse and USILA Coaches' Polls at the conclusion of the 2016 regular season. 

"We are looking forward to our 2017 schedule!", said head coach Jim Nagle. "It is packed with challenging and competitive games that will bring out the best in our team.  The challenges should prepare us for our league schedule, so that we are playing our best lacrosse at the end of the season."

Stony Brook will open the season with three straight road games. The season opener is scheduled for Feb. 14 at Sacred Heart followed by a Feb. 19 game at St. John's.

Stony Brook's first test against a national power will be on Feb. 25 when it travels to Brown. Behind Tewaaraton winner Dylan Molloy, the Bears went 16-3 in 2016, earning a trip to the NCAA Tournament semifinals where they fell in overtime to top-ranked Maryland. Molloy returns along with fellow first team All-American LSM Larken Kemp and second team defender Alec Turrett. Brown lost five All-American selections from a season ago including goalie Jack Kelly and top face-off man Will Gural.

The Bears bested Stony Brook in a tight one at LaValle Stadium last season, 16-14. 

Stony Brook's home opener will be against Fairfield on Mar. 4. The Stags went 9-8 in 2016, falling to #11 Towson in the CAA Championship. 

Stony Brook has an away date at Rutgers (Mar. 10) and a home game vs. Lehigh (Mar. 14) before its conference opener vs. UMBC at LaValle Stadium on Mar. 18. The Scarlet Knights finished the 2016 season ranked in both national polls.

Non-conference games at Hofstra (Mar. 21) and home vs. Princeton (Apr. 8) are intertwined in its conference slate.

The Seawolves play rival Albany at home on Apr. 1. The Great Danes finished the regular season ranked no. 4 in the Inside Lacrosse and USILA Coaches' Polls after a 12-2 regular season. They return top attackman Connor Fields.

Other key conference dates include a Mar. 26 meeting at defending America East champion Hartford and a game at Vermont on Apr. 15. After defeating the Catamounts in the regular season, Vermont upset the Seawolves in the conference semifinals to end their season. They return America East Offensive Player of the Year and third team USILA All-American Ian Mackay.

Stony Brook's schedule largely mirrors its slate from 2016. The Seawolves went 12-3 last season against teams they will play in 2017, their only losses coming against Brown, Albany and Vermont. Seven opponents finished 2016 with winning records.

Stony Brook returns first team all-conference performers Alex Corpolongo (Purdys, N.Y.) and Jeff Reh (Sound Beach, N.Y.) from last year's 12-win team. The Seawolves were ranked no. 13 in the USILA coaches' poll and no. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse poll at the end of the regular season.
