Terre Haute, Ind. – Stony Brook women's cross country senior Christina Melian (Staten Island, N.Y.) travels to Terre Haute, Indiana, to represent the Seawolves in Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships. Melian will be competing in the 6K at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at 11 a.m.

"Christina will finish her collegiate cross country career by competing in her second consecutive NCAA Cross Country Championship," said head coach Andy Ronan. "She will line up with 237 competitors with the goal of finishing in the top 40 to put the cap on a great cross country career by achieving All-American honors."

"The fact that she qualified again this year is already an achievement considering she was hardly running when we arrived on campus for preseason training in August," Ronan added. "She did all the necessary things to get back to training and then racing. That is a testament to her desire to be the best student-athlete possible and also to represent Stony Brook on the big stage to best of her abilities."

Saturday marks Melian's third appearance in an NCAA Championship in a span of 12 months. The senior distance runner ran in last year's NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, last November and competed in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, this past March.
