Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 14 Syracuse tops Stony Brook, 78-60

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team (0-3) welcomed the 14th-ranked Syracuse Orange (3-0) to Island Federal Credit Union Arena on Friday night, playing last year's NCAA runners-up tight for two and a half quarters in a 78-60 loss.

McCombs Reaction

I am proud of how our team fought back from an early deficit and continued to play hard for the entire 40 minutes," said head coach Caroline McCombs. "We guarded the three-point line and did a lot of good things defensively. We will continue to grow as a team and get ready for Columbia on Tuesday night."

Turning Point

The Seawolves rallied from a 15-2 deficit to start the game to pull within 10 at the half, 40-30, behind 10 first half points from senior guard Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y.). The deficit was trimmed to seven when junior Lauren Williams (North Babylon, N.Y.) knocked down a corner three to open the second half, but the Orange responded with a 9-0 run to stretch the lead to 49-33. The Seawolves would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
