Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bayne-Walker, Scognamiglio team up to take down CCSU, 64-59

New Britain, Conn. - Senior Christa Scognamiglio (Orangeburg, N.Y.) raced Stony Brook to a 12 point halftime lead by hitting 5-of-5 first half three-pointers and classmate Kori Bayne-Walker (Rochester, N.Y) carried the Seawolves home with a game-high 21 points as the Stony Brook women's basketball team (3-5) defeated the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (1-8) 64-59 on Sunday.

McCombs' Reaction

"We played with more confidence today and were able to knock down shots from the perimeter," said head coach Caroline McCombs. "It's always difficult to get a road victory. I was happy with our toughness and ability to get stops when we needed them."

Turning Point

Scognamiglio's big first half reached its boiling point in the second quarter when she buried four threes in a span of 4:06 to push the Stony Brook lead from 18-12 to 30-16. She turned the reigns over to Bayne-Walker in the second half as the point guard scored 15 of her 21 points. The Blue Devils would chip into the lead, pulling as close as 57-53 with 2:57 to go, but Scognamiglio and Bayne-Walker provided the dagger. Bayne-Walker spotted Scognamiglio with her season-high seventh assist of the game as Scognamiglio drained her career-best sixth three to put the Seawolves ahead 62-53 with 59 seconds.
